CHROME-PEEL is a peelable maskant containing toluene and naphtha. CHROMEPEEL is suitable for use in the following: Anodizing and Chrome Plating. APPLICATION PROCEDURE
1. Before applying CHROME-PEEL, make sure the metal part is clean and free from grease, dirt and the like. The adhesion of CHROME-PEEL could be compromised if the part is not clean prior to applying CHROME-PEEL. The part should also be completely dry before applying the maskant.
2. CHROME-PEEL can be applied to the area to be masked by brushing, dipping or spraying. If applying by brush, use a camel hair brush and use as few brush strokes as possible. Do not brush CHROME-PEEL as you would a typical latex or oil-based house paint. If spraying, consult the user’s guide for the spray system and follow manufacturer’s directions as to the required viscosity necessary for spraying. Dilute CHROME-PEEL with CHROME-PEEL Reducer for best results.
3. As a general rule, apply one coat of CHROME-PEEL to the area to be masked and allow to dry before applying additional coats. Apply subsequent coats perpendicular to the preceding coats to make sure all areas are covered. Two thin coats are better than one thick coat. The parts can be forced dried to speed up the masking process. Make sure all solvent odor has evaporated before placing part in a forced air oven or over a hot plate. This generally takes about ten (10) minutes. In a moderately warm oven, (140 degrees F), leave the part in the oven for no more than twenty to thirty minutes. The same temperature applies to hot plate drying. For ambient air drying, allow at least one hour between coats and at least one to two hours before placing into a solution. For hard chrome applications, the dry film thickness of CHROME-PEEL should be at least 16-18 mils. This is normally three coats of the wet film. For very long cycles, a dry film thickness of 18-20 mils may be required.
4. As a general rule, given sufficient dry film thickness, CHROME-PEEL should readily peel from the part. CHROME-PEEL is more easily removed from a warm part. For removing CHROME-PEEL in recessed areas, a soak in toluene will remove CHROME-PEEL. CHROME-PEEL can be removed by burning but make sure this method is acceptable to local authorities.
5. For masking to a line, apply CHROME-PEEL to the line by carefully brushing, dipping or spraying to the line. Tape can be used to demarcate the line and can be removed prior to CHROME-PEEL drying. Certain tapes can be left on the part with CHROME-PEEL applied directly over the tape. If scribing a line, use a very sharp knife to avoid lifting. If lifting should occur, apply a thin bead of CHROME-PEEL to the cut line and allow to dry thoroughly.
CAUTION
CHROME-PEEL CONTAINS VOLATILE SOLVENTS. ALWAYS WORK IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA AND WEAR APPROPRIATE GLOVES, EYE PROTECTION AND BREATHING EQUIPMENT.
