MT-1024 PEELABLE MASKANT
Characteristics: Opaque Red; Viscosity – 5000-5500 cps, #5 spindle, 20 rpm; Weight per gallon, approx. 8.0 pounds. Flash point – 24 degrees F. T.C.C.; 4.8# per gallon VOC. MT-1024 is butyl rubber compound containing toluene and vm&p naphtha. MT-1024 is suitable for use in the following: Electroless Nickel Plating Chemical Milling Hard Coat AnodizingMost acid solutions APPLICATION PROCEDURE1. Before applying MT-1024, make sure the metal part is clean and free from grease, dirt and the like. The adhesion of MT-1024 could be compromised if the part is not clean prior to applying MT-1024. 2. Stir MT-1024 prior to use. It is common for some settling to occur and this is normal. Stir only enough to bring the mixture to a homogenous mixture. Over-mixing can incorporate air into the product. 3. Apply MT-1024 to the area to be masked by brushing or dipping. Use a camel hair brush to apply MT-1024. If MT-1024 becomes to thick, use MT-1024 reducer to bring the product to the desired consistency. MT-1024 can be sprayed with proper dilution. Consult directions on spray equipment to determine proper viscosity for spraying. 4. As a general rule, two coats of MT-1024 are needed to achieve desired results. Depending upon the application, temperature of the solution, length of time in the solution, ph of the solution and other factors, it may be necessary to apply three coats to achieve desired results. Apply coats perpendicular if possible to cover the area to be masked more thoroughly. 5. Allow at least thirty minutes dry time between coats. Make sure that MT-1024 has lost all solvent odor before applying additional coats. An overnight air dry is recommended before immersing a part masked with MT-1024 into a solution. Faster drying can be accomplished by force drying the masked part over a hot plate or in a forced air oven. Do not exceed 140 degrees F for forced drying and no longer than fifteen minutes. Make sure MT-1024 has lost all solvent odor before placing part over a hot plate or in a forced air oven. 6. After the first coat dries, carefully trim any excess MT-1024 material with a sharp knife making sure not to lift the material from the desired edge. If some lifting should occur, use a small camel hair brush and carefully apply a small amount of MT-1024 to the area to seal it. If additional coats are applied, paint or dip to the cut edge. Allow material to dry thoroughly before placing part in solution. 7. MT-1024 is suitable for use in normal alkaline cleaning operations including reverse electro clean operations. However, do not leave part in this alkaline solution for extended periods of time. As a general rule, two minutes or less in an alkaline solution will not cause degradation of the material. 8. MT-1024 can normally be peeled from the part if the part is warm. If the part is cold, soak briefly in warm water for removal of the maskant. For removal in small or recessed areas, MT-1024 Reducer will remove the maskant. Toluene will also remove the maskant and the maskant can be burned from the part. Consult state and federal regulations before burning material from part as smoke will be released.
CAUTIONMT-1024 CONTAINS VOLATILE SOLVENTS. ALWAYS WORK IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA AND WEAR APPROPRIATE GLOVES, EYE PROTECTION AND BREATHING EQUIPMENT.
