MT-2350 MASKANT

Characteristics:

Deep red opaque, liquid. Viscosity – 2900-3100 cps Brookfield #4 spindle at 75 degrees F; Weight per gallon, approx. 7.9 pounds; Flash point 25 degrees F., T.C.C. 5.7# per gallon VOC.

MT-2350 is a dispersion containing MIBK and toluene.

REVISED VERSION

MT-2350 is suitable for use in the following: Hard Chrome Plating

 APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1.      Before applying MT-2350, make sure the metal part is clean and free from grease, dirt and the like. The adhesion of MT-2350 could be compromised if the part is not clean prior to applying MT-2350. The part should also be completely dry before applying the maskant.

2.      MT-2350 can be applied to the area to be masked by brushing, dipping or spraying. If applying by brush, use a camel hair brush and use as few brush strokes as possible. Do not brush MT-2350 as you would a typical latex or oil-based house paint. If spraying, consult the user’s guide for the spray system and follow manufacturer’s directions as to the required viscosity necessary for spraying. Dilute MT-2350 with MT-2350 Reducer for best results.

3.      As a general rule, apply two coats of MT-2350 for optimum results. Depending upon the application, temperature of the plating bath, length of time in the solution, ph of the solution and other factors, it may be necessary to use three coats to achieve the desired results. Three thin coats are better than two thick coats. Apply the coats perpendicular if possible to cover the area to be masked more thoroughly.

4.      Allow at least thirty minutes dry time between coats. Make sure that MT-2350 has lost all solvent odor before applying additional coats. An overnight air dry is recommended before placing masked part in the metal processing solution. Faster drying can be accomplished by force drying the masked part over a hot plate or in a forced air oven. Do not exceed 140 degrees F for forced drying and no longer than fifteen minutes.

5.      After drying, clean any excess material with MT-2350 Reducer. Be careful not to splash any Reducer on the dried MT-2350 as it will remove the coating. Touch up any missed spots and allow to dry thoroughly.

6.      MT-2350 is suitable for most alkaline cleaning systems and should not be affected by the solution. A cleaning cycle of two minutes or less in a caustic cleaner or reverse electro clean should not lessen the masking properties of MT-2350.

7.      After the plating or other metal processing step is completed, MT-2350 can be removed by using the MT-2350 Reducer or by using MT-2146EF.            .

CAUTION

MT-2350 CONTAINS VOLATILE SOLVENTS. ALWAYS WORK IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA AND WEAR APPROPRIATE GLOVES, EYE PROTECTION AND BREATHING EQUIPMENT.
