MT-920 MASKANT

Characteristics: Orange reddish liquid. Viscosity – 280-300 cps Brookfield #3 @ 20rpm, 75 degrees F; Weight per gallon, approx. 7.8 pounds; Flash point 25 degrees F., T.C.C. VOC – 5.6 lbs/gal.

MT-920 is a vinyl maskant containing MEK and TOLUENE

MT-920 is suitable for use in the following: Acid Gold; Indium; Lead; Electroless Nickel;  Palladium; Rhodium; Silver, Anodizing and Chrome Plating.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1.      Before applying MT-920, make sure the metal part is clean and free from grease, dirt and the like. The adhesion of MT-920 could be compromised if the part is not clean prior to applying MT-920. The part should also be completely dry before applying the maskant.

2.      MT-920 can be applied to the area to be masked by brushing, dipping or spraying. If applying by brush, use a camel hair brush and use as few brush strokes as possible. Do not brush MT-920 as you would a typical latex or oil-based house paint. If spraying, consult the user’s guide for the spray system and follow manufacturer’s directions as to the required viscosity necessary for spraying. Dilute MT-902 with MT-920 Reducer for best results.

3.      As a general rule, apply one coat of MT-920 to the area to be masked and allow to dry before applying additional coats. Apply subsequent coats perpendicular to the preceding coats to make sure all areas are covered. Two thin coats are better than one thick coat. The parts can be forced dried to speed up the masking process. Make sure all solvent odor has evaporated before placing part in a forced air oven or over a hot plate. This generally takes about thirty (30) minutes. In a moderately warm oven, (140 degrees F), leave the part in the oven for no more than ten to fifteen minutes. The same temperature applies to hot plate drying. After all coats are applied, allow the part to dry overnight before placing into solutions.

4.      Remove any excess MT-920 with MT-920 Reducer. Be careful not to allow the Reducer to splash or migrate onto the dried MT-920, as it will remove the coating. Touch up any missed spots with MT-920 and allow to dry before placing part into metal finishing solutions.

5.      After the metal finishing operation is completed, MT-920 can be removed using the MT-920 Reducer or MT-2146EF. If appropriate, the coating can be removed by burning. Check regulations before doing this however.
